It all appeared in far Asia where people have very long hair obtained with the help of  a natural method.

The secret lies behind rice water

Huangluo is an ancient Chinese village where the secret of shiny and long hair originates from. It is also called the ‘Long Hair Village’ and the Yao women are known for their long, grey-less, shiny hair. Their hairs are long more than 1.4 meters! Some of them have also appeared in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest hair village!

Numerous generations of Yao women have been using rice water. They have used it to wash their hair for years and it resulted in shiny and healthy hair. These women only cut their hair once, when they reach the age of 18.

According to numerous studies, rice water is full of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins, as well as some restorative properties which improve its elasticity and condition. This water is called inositol, a carbohydrate which can repair damaged hair and protect it from future damage. This can actually help everybody who has had damaged hair. The amino acids in the fermented rice water are especially helpful in strengthening the hair roots and smoothening the hair surface, making it shine. Scars, fine lines, and inflammation on the skin are also something this water can help you with.

The most prized possession for the Yao people is their hair. According to them long hair brings longevity, prosperity, good fortune, and wealth. They also have the tradition of wearing different styles in order to represent landmarks in their life like marriage. When they cut their hair at the age of 18 it is given to their grandmother and returned to the girl once she marries so that she can wear it alongside her own hair as a hair piece.

Follow the method:

First, you should take a cup of rice and rinse it thoroughly so that you can remove any dirt. Then, place it into a pot with water on a heat and cover it. Cook it for 15 minutes and stir it occasionally. Strain the water into a plastic bottle and let it cool off at a room temperature for a day until it turns slightly sour and starts fermenting. Then, put it into a pan and boil it. After that, leave it to cool off. You can also add a few drops of lavender, rosemary, or tea tree essential oil (optional). Gently massage it into the scalp and your hair. In the end, rinse it off thoroughly.

You can collect enough rice water for 2-3 hair washes by cooking rice 2-3 times a week.
