Dentures and dental implants could soon become the past, as scientists claim there is possibility that the patient’s jaw to develop new teeth!
Until now, the only option to compensate the lost teeth was prosthesis or implant, but since both methods can adversely affect the health, researchers have investigated how naturally people get new teeth.
“Dental prosthetics can cause infection, injury or damage to surrounding tissue, nerves, and even sinus. Also, the dentures tend to be very uncomfortable and interfere with patients during meals. It also can cause irritation or infection of the gums and mouth, “said an expert for the portal DentistryId.
“This is really needed medical advances, because until 74 years of age, as much as 26 percent of adults lose their teeth,” say researchers.
The new technique revealed by Dr. Jeremy Mao and Professor Edward V. together with a team of experts at Columbia University, works by actually leading stem cells of the body to go on a three-dimensional platform, which is responsible for the growth factor of new teeth.
Thus, when injected in the jaw, new teeth start or will fully grow in only 9 weeks, writes the portal.
“A key factor in the regeneration of teeth is to find an approach that will be able to be applied even in patients who are not good candidates for dental implants or cannot afford them,” said Dr. Mao.
The study was published in the Journal of Dental Research, the leading journal in the world in the field of dentistry.
