Lice are something very common among children, but they can also appear in adults. Only in the USA, there are 6-14 million children who get them every year. These insects are very stubborn and multiply rapidly, causing irritation of the scalp at the same time. There are numerous treatments that people tried to get rid of them, but why would you affect your child’s scalp with chemicals when you can also use some natural treatments. Here, we present you some of them:
Olive or almond oil – Coat the hair with one of these oils. Use clips to divide the hair in smaller sections. Use a comb dipped in hot water to comb the hair. Then shampoo it and rub it thoroughly with a towel. Repeat this process every day for a whole week.
Essential oils – Some of the essential oils like nutmeg, red thyme, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender oil are powerful enough to eliminate lice. Just mix 15-20 drops of any of these oils along with 2 oz. of olive oil and apply it on the scalp. Let it stay and act throughout the night and comb and shampoo your hair two times the following morning.
Coconut oil or Vaseline – Apply one of these on the hair and cover it with a shower cap. 12-24 hours should pass before you shampoo it. Then, cover it again with a shower cap for half an hour, rinse it with some water, and then apply basil leaves juice on the head. Comb it and then apply shampoo. Cover the head with a shower cap and leave it like that throughout the night. Rinse it off the following morning.
Nit comb – You better use nit comb for children under the age of 2. Use a shampoo and a conditioner, but also a fine-toothed comb 2 times a day. Repeat this process 3-4 days in order to get optimal results.
Neem oil – This is a natural insecticide that can help in the prevention of lice growth. Buy a shampoo with neem oil or add several teaspoons of it in your shampoo. The results will appear after a while.
Lime juice and garlic – Take 8-10 garlic cloves and grind them. Then mix them with 2-3 teaspoons of lime juice, applying it on the scalp and letting it act for 30 minutes. Rinse your hair with warm water and repeat this procedure on a weekly basis for 2-3 months.
White vinegar and baby oil – Apply the baby oil on your hair and comb out the lice. Then, shampoo your hair and rinse it off with some warm water. Apply the vinegar and let it stay overnight covered with a shower cap. Shampoo again in the morning.
Sesame seed oil –This type of oil possesses antifungal, antibacterial, and natural insecticidal properties. Prepare a mixture of ¼ of a cup of sesame seed oil and several drops of neem oil, rosemary, lavender, and eucalyptus oil. The hair needs to be rinsed with apple cider vinegar first and then, the mixture should be applied on the scalp. Cover it with a shower cap and let it act during the night. Comb your hair in the morning so that you can remove the dead lice. Shampoo the hair and use towel to rub it.
Hair dryer –Hair dryers can directly remove 98% of nits and 55% of lice. Blow dry your hair after each shower using high heat. Remember not to apply this method to children. Also, don’t you ever blow dry your hair if you apply chemicals!
Hair styling gel – Use hair styling gel to coat the hair and cover it with a shower cap. Let it act throughout the night and wash it off the following day. Use a comb to remove the dead lice. In order to get the optimal results, repeat this treatment weekly.
